NOT SO NUDE
This is Serrote's first book of their Serraglio new series devoted to lust.
Not so Nude is a tribute to Daniele da Volterra - 'the breeches maker', the infamous Mannerist Italian painter, charged of covering with loincloths and fig leaves the genitals of the characters of Michelangelo's The Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel, hence his nickname.
The author of this book went beyond the recommendations of the Council of Trent (condemning nudity in religious painting and employing Volterra) and drew, with ballpoint pen, underwear in thirteen reclining nudes of the secular painting.
Odalisques, goddesses, nymphs, lovers, prostitutes and wives hung on the walls of famous museums, were dressed with bodysuits, nightgowns, bras, panties and socks.
